*Thursday---I spent the afternoon shampooing the living room carpet, with Shasta’s help. I have decided that white carpet in a house full of kids ranks right up there as one of the dumbest things we have ever done.
*Friday---Marissa awoke with a sore shoulder and neck and felt lousy for much of the day. She lay on the couch for most of the day and we alternated between giving her a hot-water bottle and an ice pack for her neck. She took a 2 ½ hour nap and still felt lousy. After finishing school with the kids, I shampooed the carpet again since there were a few persistent stains that were annoying me. Shasta had an afternoon appt. at the clinic to have a few suspicious moles removed from her back. The smaller mole was easily removed, while the bigger mole had to be cut out, requiring three stitches. Afterwards, Shasta set out on a four-hour drive, spending the weekend with Jon’s family on the farm. And yes, her back began to hurt a lot once the numbness wore off. Ana spent the evening at "Deaf Bowling" with some college friends…as part of her ASL class. Ceara, Laura, Lisa and myself went to the ballet performance of The Nutcracker. This is an annual tradition for us, having attended the Nutcracker Ballet every November for about 10 years now. The kids love it, and it was even more special since they have several friends that were performing in the ballet this year.
*Saturday---The kids were up bright and early and headed into town with Wayne. Colter had his monthly "Blue Knights" meeting and the girls attended their monthly "North Wind Girls Club" meeting. Both of these groups are for Catholic children. All of the girls broke into teams for part of their meeting, and then they played a game about Saints called, "Wheel of Martyrs." The team that Laura was on won, and so they each got to pick out a music CD to bring home and keep. She was very excited about that! After they got home and checked the mailbox, there was more excitement---the girls are starting to receive packages of funky socks from their chain letter! Wayne had to go to work and finish up a job for a few hours in the afternoon. Ana had the whole weekend off from work (which rarely happens)…and got the brilliant idea to paint our kitchen cupboards…so the rest of the day (until 1:30 am) was spent sanding and priming cupboard doors and drawer fronts.
*Sunday---We attended Mass, getting home about noon. Donuts and Cinnamon rolls for lunch! Wayne and the kids spent some time outside picking up sandbox toys, lawn chairs, bikes, etc., and storing them for the winter. The kids also went 4-wheeling, played with the little puppies, played several games of checkers and foose-ball. The last of the kitchen painting was also finished and some organizing of the drawers was also accomplished. Since the kitchen was a total mess, supper of hot dogs, stove-top stuffing, carrots and pickles was served picnic-style on a blanket on the living room floor. Shasta arrived home from the farm…her back still sore where the stitches are. Later in the evening, after tucking the three littlest kids into bed, we all watched a Christmas movie on TV. We all slept well after a long and busy weekend….
