(Last week for a writing class in our homeschool, I asked the girls to write about something that had recently happened. This is Laura's paper...)
For Christmas Mom and dad got us kids two snowboards! We were all so happy. After breakfast the next morning we went outside to see if we had the skill to snowboard. The first to try was Laura (me). She put her feet in the foot holes and stood up. She moved around a little to get her balance. Then she went down. She did not get too far! She fell down one quarter of the way. Then we all tried the snowboard. After awhile Ana came out. She said, "Wow, that looks like fun. Can I try?" We all said she could. (Because we were all getting rather tired of falling.) So Ana put her feet in the foot holes, stood up and went down. She made it all the way! At the end of the hill she fell onto her knees. Ana got up, picked the snowboard up and started up the hill. As she was walking, Ceara gasped and then started to laugh! We all (except Ana) looked to where Ceara was pointing. Then we started to laugh also. Ana was standing there holding the snowboard and saying, "What? What? What's so funny?" Ceara finally told Ana that when she went down the hill and fell...she fell right into dog poo! Ana made the funniest face we ever saw. She then said, "OH...that is SO gross!" And then she dropped the snowboard and went into the house! After awhile we all came into the house as well. But we had a pretty exciting day!
(Explanation: Two winters ago, the very first time Ana tried snowboarding, she fell and broke her wrist and also tore the soft tissue in both her wrist and arm. She had many problems with it for over a year, and even now, two years later, she will occasionally have some pain in her arm and wrist. She swore that she would never try snowboarding again! But recently, temptation apparently got the better of her...for she tried one more time...and this time, it being only the second time ever snowboarding, she fell into a pile of dog poop. She was utterly disgusted and came stomping into the house muttering, "This is it...NEVER again...the first time I broke a bone and now I fall into a pile of dog crap...I. WILL. NEVER. SNOWBOARD. AGAIN.")
To which I say: Some things just aren't meant to be.
