The morning of Christmas Eve day found several of our children, and a few friends, inside the local mall "ringing the bell" in front of the Salvation Army kettle. This has become somewhat of a tradition for them, since they have done it for the last few Christmas seasons and plan on doing it again next year as well. This year a few of our youngest kids also joined the group. They all love doing this.
This year the kids were given an unexpected surprise. As an elderly couple approached the kettle to drop in their donation, they smiled at the kids, said "Merry Christmas!" and then handed the kids a handful of free passes to our local indoor water-park. The kids were stunned (but delighted) by this thoughtful gesture.
