I'm still alive

Well, seems another two months has passed without any blogging from me.  I just can't seem to get back into the swing of things as far as blogging goes.  Life in our household moves at a swift pace...family, fun, chaos, a multitude of things to be done, constant running to and fro.  I'm gonna try, really try, to keep the blog up, starting today --- (one of my new year's resolutions...)

It's Saturday afternoon as I sit here typing this. It's actually a quiet, laid-back kind of day, which is very rare for us.  I rather like it.  There's not exactly much happening in the household today.

Today:
*Laura is sick with bronchitis and is feelin pretty sick in general.  She's missed a few days of work as well as school and finally went to the doctor yesterday.  Meds were prescribed, but it's gonna be a few days before she starts feeling any better I suspect.

*Ceara and Ted are out of town visiting friends and old roommates for the day and doing some shopping, I hear, too.

*Lisa is off to a different town a few hours north of us.   Her boyfriend plays basketball and there's a weekend tourney today.  She rode up with his mom and brother and after the game he'll be riding back home with them as well.  The two of them are inseperable and adorable together.

*Hank, Colter's dog, is finally on the mend.  Or at least we hope he is.  He's been one sick dog since Christmas, even stumping the vet.  After several trips to the vet and several tests on him, there is still no diagnosis.  He was withering away before our eyes, and it was sure a sad sight.  We're now trying a specific medicine with him, and he seems to be bouncing back.  We've rejoiced today each time he's gotten up and eaten bites of his food.  Colter is a very happy boy - he and Hank are pretty attached.  Hopefully he continues doing well...

*Both Marissa and Emma are doing way better after the upper respitory gunk that plagued them for a few weeks.  They've been telling me how bored they are today.  I think they're so used to a house full of people and so much action going on around them that when faced with a slow-paced, quiet day they have no clue how to react.  Right now they're making a blanket fort on the love seat next to me --- I hate the mess, because they're never happy with just a few blankets --- pretty soon they'll be dragging all kinds of things out of their room to add to their blanket fort. Little interior designers, they are.

*Wayne is back home after spending most of the week in Oklahoma for his work.  He arrived in Oklahoma City last Monday and it was 70 degrees.  When he left the Dallas airport on Thursday it was 60 degrees - and arrived back in Minneapolis where it was 10 below zero.  While he was gone last week, we experienced the coldest temps, so far, of this season - dippin' down to almost thirty below.  I'm glad he's back - we don't do well when we're apart from one another.

*Weiners and beans for lunch today.  Not sure whats for dinner yet.  I don't want to think about it, but yet I know it's just a matter of time before my family begins asking that dreaded question.  Too often I dream of ordering take-out --- a nice cheesy pizza and chips and soda sound delish --- but, alas, we have all those funky allergies going on that makes ordering junky (but delish) fast food nearly impossible.

I walked into the living room the other day to see this sweet scene - Colter with his arm slung around Emma's shoulder as they were looking out the window together.  And they were talking nicely - not bickering or teasing.  Holy!  I nearly threw my hands in the air and shouted hallelujah!  But instead I snapped this quick picture - and an instant later he had her in a head lock and was rubbing her head with his other hand, messing up her hair.  Ah, yes, that's more like it....(but at least I was able to get a picture documenting that very historical moment...)

Many of our evenings are spent similar to this...with the
older girls and their boyfriends as well as the younger three kids all together. They most often watch movies in the family room and sometimes some of them take off and go ice-fishing or several of them might go to the school and watch Lisa's guy play basketball when there's a home game - or any number of things - and not always all together, often times just as a couple - but they're all okay with hanging out together too and always manage to have a good time.  In these pics they were playing poker - Emma is the resident poker player in the house.  Sad, but true.  That girl can whoop them all in poker...

...and hopefully more blogging to come real soon!
Stay tuned!
