mother nature

last week was a bummer week - lots & lots of rain.
for a few days it came down in sheets, for hours at a time.
we had like nine inches (or more) of rain within a few days time.
it was crazy.
there were country roads washed out not far from us.
the rain caused a mess in many places around here - lots of flooding and lots of people with water in their homes.  north of us was even worse.
but we were fairly lucky - we live in a gravely area - not too good for much other than growing rocks we tease, but it absorbs water well.
not a drop of water in our basement - our flooding was basically just in the front yard as well as our back driveway - they were under water for a few days but dried up quickly.
***

its hard to see in the first pic here, but the rain is coming down in sheets off the roof quite impressively.
and in the second pic, the pool is very full and overflowing.
(excuse the mess, the wind had blown things over and we had flats of plants still waiting to be planted sitting on the deck...)

walkin' in the rain, dancin' in the rain, singin' in the rain...

part of our front yard underwater...
the kids were thrilled with our new pond and couldn't
resist playing in it...

our back driveway...
it was quite a mess with lots of soupy mud under the water...

and then a few days later the sun came out
and it got hot & humid
and now we complain about the heat
(just like we complained about all the rain)
because, i swear, sometimes we're never satisified.

lately we've had beautiful sunsets
and we've tried to spend as much time as we can outside
but the mosquitoes are sooo bad.
they're more like little birds that attack us and suck the blood out of us
leaving us all itchy and crazy.
we'll gladly take the sunsets
but not the mosquitoes.
