*watched "Walk the Line" with Wayne and the three oldest girls one evening while the three middle-agers watched the video "Gone With the Wind" and while the three youngest kiddos were tucked into bed for the night. "Walk the Line" was a great movie...loved it!
*some of us watched the "Oscars" for the first time in well over 10 years. It was ok...nothing too thrilling. But I loved the speech given by Reese Witherspoon upon receiving her 'Best Actress' award.
*Ana was on spring-break from college this week. She was asked to nanny for the whole week for our Spanish tutor's 2 kids while the tutor & her husband vacationed in Las Vegas...earning Ana some very welcomed extra dollars.
*Shasta was ill for most of the week with what we all thought was another bout of mono - but it turned out to be some other nasty virus.
*our new dishwasher was installed!! Yes! We had been handwashing dishes several times a day since our old dishwasher bit the dust about 4-5 months ago.
*earlier in the week we experienced an afternoon of very warm temps, which turned into a rain storm, followed by below-freezing temps, and then turned into snow...all resulting in dangerous driving conditions and a nasty evening.
*out little chickie, "Survivor" died.
*one more puppy was given away to a nice home - only one more to go.
*we had a vet run for our black lab - more vaccinations. Plus an appointment was made for her to go in and get her 'little doggie operation' in a few weeks.
*Ceara & Laura were asked to babysit 3 kids from another family one evening. The two of them are starting to babysit for other families now. They've certainly had enough practice with their own little sisters & brother!
*Wayne is nearing completion of our latest basement remodel.
*we've had spring-like temps for a few days toward the end of this week - our doors & windows were opened to allow the fresh air into the house. Bliss!
*the smell of a skunk one evening is a sure sign that spring is arriving!
*a trip to a "Cabela" store - an unbelievably cool (and huge!) store with every imaginable outdoor gadget available.
*the arrival of the UPS man, not once, not twice - but a wonderful three times this week, with boxes of various school-related books that we were blessed to order.
*we enjoyed a little chuckle as the 5 year old twisted her oreo cookie apart and licked off the frosting middle, but then left the cookie parts on the table. When questioned about this, she, in a very matter-of-fact voice, reminded me, "But I gave up cookies for Lent." (Apparently the sugary frosting-fill doesn't count as a cookie. In her 5 year old mind, anyhow.)
* "Friday-forgetfulness." We had a lunch that included meat, on what was supposed to have been a day of abstaining from meat (for Lent). Tsk - tsk - tsk. (We honestly forgot that it was a Friday. But, really, who in their right minds can forget which day it is, especially when it's a Friday?) Perhaps these last 2 above entries are an indication that we really should take Lent a bit more seriously?
