I cleaned Colter's bedroom yesterday. What a feat! I went through his dresser, closet, bookshelves, under the bed, and toy drawers. A few of the things we unearthed:
*Bones from some kind of an animal...neatly tucked into a drawer. He swears they are "pig bones"...
*Rocks...big rocks, little rocks, all kinds of rocks...
*A big chunk of an iron-ore rock...
*Papers, papers, papers...old junk mail, pictures torn from magazines, old stamps...
*Old magazines...tool books, hunting books, heavy equipment books, sporting books...
*Chunks of tar from the road...
*Empty shells from a gun...
*Feathers from his current bird as well as his old bird, plus feathers from various birds in the wild...
*Small pieces of wood, pieces of old rubber, a huge chunk of copper pipe, a piece of jagged metal, etc...
*Several empty toilet paper rolls...taped together and covered with crepe paper to look like a sticks of dynamite...
*Batteries (old & new), nails (used & new), grommets, his daddy's tools, knitting needles, old cell phones, etc. etc...
*Oh, and we found his pocket knife that had been missing for several weeks...tucked into the pocket of a pair of jean shorts...
So much junk for a little boy. And so different than the girls' collections. But, ya know, there's really something kind of sweet and endearing about all of it...it's a neat look into what's important to him in his busy, little boy world.
