Unique is one of the words the best describes the small-town parade that Wayne & some of the younger kids enjoyed the day after Thanksgiving.
It’s a Thanksgiving-weekend tradition. It’s the famous (drumroll)…Fish-House Parade!!
It’s billed as crazy…wacky…and one-of-a-kind…and, supposedly, it’s even "world-famous", having been shown on several TV programs over the years. Shoot, even our state Governor was this year’s special guest!
Since it is late November and quite cold (and sometimes wet & snowy), most spectators are bundled up in winter jackets, snow pants, hats & mittens…they all line the sidewalks of Main Street to watch, some sitting in lawn chairs, others huddling together under blankets sipping hot cocoa. This year there were 50 various fish-house themed floats. Some floats threw out candy to the kids and some threw out hats, t-shirts, & plastic beaded necklaces…one year someone was throwing out cans of tuna! One float pulled a hot tub, complete with bathing-suit clad people splashing around, enjoying the hot, steamy water. And of course, both Santa & Mrs. Claus make an appearance on one of the floats. The kids love it…and they always manage to bring home small sacks of candy…which makes it even better!
Yes, unique, is a good word to describe this event. (Ya just gotta love small-town living!)
