Independence Day!
All we have of freedom, all we use or know - This our fathers bought for us long and long ago.
~Rudyard Kipling
(We remembered to bring flags to decorate our tent!)

We watched the Independence Day parade in a nearby small farm town…the parade was very good…there were floats carrying veterans, and fire trucks, John Deere tractors, a marching band & hometown beauty queens…lots of candy was thrown out to the waiting children…(our kids got loads of candy)…also thrown out was cheese sticks, freezies & red, white & blue popsicles! Oh, and we found Elvis! He was riding on float, singing his heart out!
And we were also lucky enough to take in two different evenings of fireworks…shot out over the cornfields, of all places! Here at home the fireworks are shot off over the lake and literally thousands of people gather at the beach to watch…but down in farmland they do things a bit differently! We also listened to a Christian band perform a small concert (and sang some patriotic songs, too) directly before the fireworks…Some generous folks sitting near us for the fireworks display gave our children a few packages of sparklers..and they merrily danced around waving them in the air…

Sing a song of rockets, Sailing up so high, Roman candles booming as they hit the sky! Sing a song of gladness, thankful as can be, for the Fourth so glorious, and our flag so free!
