Dancing the night away...

I think its safe to say that everyone had a great time at the dance. There was a live band, which was a pleasant surprise, since we 'old timers' pretty much grew up dancing to live bands, not the DJs that the young people are used to now days.  It was fun, it was loud, it was flashy, and the room was filled with lots of young people and lots of energy...
The bride & groom's first dance was a choreographed dance...
Wayne & I were pretty good dancers back in the day, rarely missing a weekend dance when we were dating --- but now we mostly just sit back and watch the young people do their thing.  We'll dance a few slow dances together, but mostly leave the wild dancing to the younger generation. Some of our girls are more into dancing than others - but the boyfriends are pretty good.  Ted totally gets into it, along with singing to the songs being played - as long as he had a dance partner (and sometimes by himself) he was out on the dance floor, groovin' to the music - oh, how we all laughed at him.  Of course he danced with Ceara, but she doesn't get into dancing nearly as much as he does - and so he and Shasta, who isn't afraid to let loose either, danced together, too.  (Jon is still recovering from knee surgery, so he didn't partake.) Ryan is pretty dang good too, and he and Laura danced most of the dances that night.  And all our big kids were good about dancing with the little girls, including Elsie and James, who weren't about to be left out. I think Lisa and Colter were the only ones who didn't dance at least one dance.  Colter thinks dancing is just plain weird and Lisa told everyone who asked her, "no thanks!"  Ha!
It was a full house - there were lots of little kids as well as big people - but as the evening wore on and the music got louder and the people got a bit wilder (in a good & fun way), our younger kids got more and more tired and we finally had to call it a night and Wayne & I and the three kids headed for home.  We were about half way home, driving down the country road, and a big ol' buck ran into the road and crashed into the side of our van.  We heard and felt the loud thud, putting quite a scare into the kids in the backseat.  It all happened in a flash.  Luckily no damage was done to our van other than a few scratches on the sliding door, where his horns hit.  We turned around and drove back down the road for a distance, scouting the ditch, but there was no sign of a dead deer.  We were lucky and I guess the deer was, too.  It coulda been waay worse.
It was a fun evening spent in the company of lots of fun and good people and extended family members...

(P.S. and yes, if anyone is wondering, the boyfriends in the family are over 21, thus the beer and drinks in hand.)
